Clowning, Steam Punk Style

Today was our last day at the Edinburgh Festival   It was once again a packed itinerary.

As it was Sunday, we started after a late breakfast with a play at lunchtime(!)  "The Ruby in the Smoke" is a play based on the Philip Pullman novel, which both Cathy and Jess were keen to see.  It was well designed and produced and gave us a nice easy start to our day.  

After lunch we wandered up the Royal Mile (where my main shot was taken, and also the extra of the gymnast in mono).  I struggled to decide which of these shots to go for, particularly as the gymnast is holding that pose - it is not just a moment in time.  In the end I loved the vibrant colour of the madcap clowns with their steampunk borrowings, and chose them for the main shot.

Later in the afternoon we caught Abi Roberts free show "Anglichanka" (which means English Girl in Russian).  We had not been able to get into the day before, as it was oversubscribed and had foolishly thought that we would be fine if we turned up 10 minutes before the start.  This time we were there in plenty of time.  The show was great fun and I have included a shot of Abi in full flow, singing "Chicago" in Russian ...   you really had to be there to really appreciate it.

It was then time to say goodbye to Jess who has gone back to Birmingham.  Cathy and I cheered ourselves up with a trip to the coffee shop, just as it started to rain.  Our timing was perfect, as a light shower turned into a deluge of biblical proportions (the final extra).

We rounded our evening off with a few drinks in the pub and the very fine Mark Steel's in Toun show, which brought our evening to a very cheery conclusion.

Tomorrow we are due to move on, our holiday is nearly at an end.
