Chinese Quince, early August.
We have two of these shrubs in our backyard. It seems that almost as soon as they drop their leaves they start shooting again. They are still relatively small, about 2m high and wide, and we had a really nice crop of fruit last Autumn that Kaye cooked into Quince Paste. To be eaten with Blue Vein Cheese. Yum. If the number of flowers are any indication, we will be inundated with Quinces next Autumn. The fruit is quite large - at least, larger than a grapefruit, but more elongated. It ripens to a golden yellow - quite lovely.
Much better large.
