Mono Monday : : Touch

The touch of a dog's cold, wet nose on your ear when you are trying to drink your morning coffee probably wouldn't be for everybody, but Olive loves OilMan and has become his little shadow. She  likes to go outside and hang out with him during the day, so it was his presence and not his coffee that she was interested in this morning.

It's a funny thing about OilMan. Kids and dogs love him. He is quiet and undemanding. And he's a pushover. He and Olive have bonded because, once again, the easiest solution to a situation is sometimes not the most desirable. It is easier for OilMan to sleep in the guest bedroom with Olive than any of the alternatives that would appear  obvious  to any sane person who doesn't have a dog.

In many ways dogs are, in their own way, the most logical of creatures. They have very little to distract their minds from observing their people. Somebody once told me that dogs sleep with half their brain at a time so they don't miss anything. They know what their people are going to do next. They know what they want, and they know how to get it.  Ozzie  can tell by the tilt of my cappuccino cup when I am taking my last sip of espresso and ready to let him lick out the last of the milk foam. He stands, staring fixedly at me and drools…

Even though he never slept in our bedroom in our previous house , he decided on the very first night in the new one that he was having none of the place we had chosen for him. We were too tired to resist. Now he not only sleeps in our room, he sleeps on our bed. He is quite adept at becoming an immoveable object when he is comfortably settled on the bed and neither OilMan nor I, nor, as it turns out, Olive, is able to shift him. Separate bedrooms is far preferable to dog skirmishes over our bed in the wee hours….

Olive is undemanding as long as she can be in touching distance of OilMan…. I wonder what se would do if I started licking  whispering sweet nothings in OilMan's ear?

Thanks to JDO for hosting the Mono Monday challenge this month.
