Whales ......A Bad Accident ...& a Lovely Guest
We have a friend staying with us at the mo ….we took him up to Hastings Point to show him the favourite place and Thai nosh.
Jaiya sat in the car reading her book….I went down on the rocks and took pics and the boys went off to their rocky castles by the crashing waves to (what I was told) save damsels in distress.
Jaiya (the whale spotter) jumped out of the car and beckoned up all to the headland where we sat for a good 30 mins just watch a baby whale frolic and cavort amongst the choppy waves….so close we could almost touch him/them (actually a mother and baby).
I bemoaned the fact that I didn’t have my good camera with me with a longer lens....which in the end was a good thing because just after taking this shot and needing to hurry to to get back to the car (Jaiya was waiting and I didnt want to get into too much trouble) I clicked the camera off of the tripod and because it was on a slope it popped off ...fell on the stones below and continued to roll down onto more stones...I was watching it all in slow motion...I heard a crack....my heart sank.
My $300 variable ND filter was smashed.....and again it was fortuitous because I think it saved my lovely (favorite) ziess lens from smashing ...and fingers crossed the camera seems to be OK too...(I will test again tomorrow I just dont have it in me tonight)....upshot I am really happy it wasn't my A7R..just in case..........I hardly tasted my Thai food all I saw was my smashed filter......I dunno...people who don't take photos just don't understand the grief of having part of their kit lost or broken.
Im still in shock...need more tea.
