So many books, so little time...

Early start at the Edinburgh Book Festival today where we saw Claudia Hammond talking about her book 'Mind over Money' which explores our relationship with cash. A highly enjoyable and insightful talk.

Later, we went to listen to Goretti Kyomuhendo (pictured here) do a reading from her book 'Waiting'. Goretti also discussed whether the English speaking world is finally waking up to the power of writing from post colonial Africa, as part of the Africa's Independent Voices.

Goretti (like myself) is originally from Uganda, but now spends her time between the UK & Uganda. Her writing is based around her experiences of Uganda under the dictatorship of Idi Amin.

It was interesting to hear her say that Uganda is still under Amin's shadow & during his time in power, writers either stopped in fear, went into exile or were murdered. Fortunately, a lot of talented young writers are coming through now - which is good to know.

Also, whilst at the book festival, I saw Nicola Sturgeon with her husband who both said hello to me, whilst taking in the festival vibe early this morning.

I must stop bumping into her every time I come back to Edinburgh otherwise I will feel like she's stalking me!
