This was a very intensive driving day; six and a half hours in all! The road system in Sri Lanka is pretty basic and as such, it takes a really long time to get anywhere. According to our guide, so much of the government's money is put towards the war against the Tamil Tigers that there just isn't enough for anything else, such as the transport network.

A tea plantation and a batty old Sri Lankan family who live next to the river where a scene from 'Bridge Over the River Kwai' was filmed were the highlights today.
