Memmingen Invaded
Had to pop in to Memmingen to get some pool supplies and thought I should drop off the hospital exit letter to my specialist.
Memmingen is getting ready for the Wallenstein Week which kicks off with a childrens festival today, tomorrow the stream running through the city is fished out by local men jumping in with nets and proclaiming the Fisher King and then a week long medieval camp is erected in the middle of the town whereby the historic stay of A certain "imperial generallisimo" by the name of Wallenstein stayed with his army for a few days in Memmingen during the Thirty Years War in 1630. The man is so full of weird historical facts, those interested can read the Wiki entry.
Albert mentioned a couple of days ago apart from his tractors, bikes and cars also has a few horse carriages and will tomorrow be driving one of them, a simple farm cart,.
So quite busy in town with spectator stands being built all over the place. It's a big highlight every two years for the town.
I happened to pass by the Irish Pub with it's, in English, sign "Licence to sell beer, wine and spirits". Just then a very military looking LandRover came by, I was a bit late with the camera and it shot off but the rear view seemed to confirm the Brits weren't invading . it had a Memmingen numberplate and was covered in Union Jacks.
Then went to the organic shop to stock up on cheddar as they were celebrating their 30 anniversary and giving a 5% discount. Outside was one of the suppliers, a herb grower, Paul known as the Herb Farmer with a display of fine herbs prepared in a huge variety of jars. We had a very long chat about everything from A-Z. Very interesting and I got home very late. Finally a photo of the Ottobeuren council gardener, watering the display of planted flowers celebrating 250 years of the Basilica, She posed for me in Referendum week with a Union Jack T-shirt.
