Hastings Miniature Railway
A beautiful day today, just right for a walk up and down the glens of Hastings Country Park from Firehills to Hastings Old Town and back calling in at the Mermaid Restaurant for fish and chips at the half way point.
Traffic was particularly bad on the way down, taking over an hour and a half to travel 33 miles but well worth the effort for this up and downer.
Hastings was, of course, heaving in the sun. We arrived at the restaurant at 3.00pm so the place had quietened down by then and we were able to enjoy first rate fish and chips without the crowds.
A short walk along the seafront took us past the Hastings Miniature Railway. I've not taken much interest in this before as its always diesel powered but not today. One of the turns was handled by Edward Hanney which I discovered was originally built for the Wells Harbour Railway in 1972, sold to the Vanstone Woodland Railway in 2011 making its way to Hastings after that but she does not appear on the Railway's stock list yet.
Nice to see and even more enjoyable was to see this young lad helping his dad to drive the loco. What a thing to do!
We came a different way home, longer but much quicker and far more enjoyable for the driver.
