Day Three - Exploring Lima and Huaco Pucllana

A lie in was well deserved this morning, so we headed up for our 'free' breakfast in the hostel rooftop bar around 9:30! The breakfast was great, with scrambled eggs to order and fresh fruit and guacamole!

After refuelling, we left the hostel and walked down through the area of Miraflores to the historical ruins of Huaca Pucllana. These are remains of pyramids built as early as 400AD, all made by hand by a race called the Limas. It was an incredible site set right in the centre of the city, where excavation works are still ongoing.

After the tour, we headed to a local sandwich place recommended by our guide book, which sold the best sandwiches. Not being fluent in Spanish, I ordered the El Enano special, which was a sandwich filled with chicken, chorizo, hot dog sausage, cheese and some kind of meat we couldn't identify - highly recommended! People in Peru always look very surprised when Brendan cracks out his impressive Spanish - I just look on very confused!

After this, we headed back to the hostel to do some onward planning of trips up to Huaraz and hostels/buses. We planned to visit to district of Barraco, however after yesterday's journey and our jet lag kicking in, we finished off the day with a quick dinner at a little place in Miraflores, where we had our first Peruvian delicacies of a yellow pepper chicken potato curry(?) with rice and Limo Saltado - again it was great!

We opted for an early night, a mixture of the exploring of the day and the jet lag kicking in!
