Spitfire Scramble

Firstly, I have to be completely honest here, I cannot take credit for this excellent photo, taken by dear friend B.  We spent a day in Imperial War Museum Duxford, and paid extra to climb into the (very confined) cockpit of a Spitfire. It was a sobering thought to see the gun firing button and to think of the consequences of firing it.
We also got to go inside the Lancaster which was fascinating, the guide in the extra photo (which I did take) was telling us about the history of the Lancaster and what life was like for those who flew in her.  Each plane had a crew of 7, who flew some very dangerous bombing missions during WWII including the famous 'dam-busters' raid.  The Lancaster was a dangerous place to be as the average life expectancy of a new Lancaster crew recruit  was just two weeks!
This excellent museum does a brilliant job at bringing the human story to many of its exhibits.  We had a thought-provoking but fascinating day.
