nightjar update

...the news from our Nightjar's nest was not so good this afternoon. We could see mum nestled against one of her chicks but the other chick was a little distance away and upside-down. On inspection through the binoculars, we could see it was still alive but looked as though it had been damaged or attacked, possibly by a gull or crow. We waited nearby until a dog-walker passing close to the nest caused mum to do her usual damaged wing act. While mum was away, I made a quick check of the injured chick and put it back on its feet. It started asking for food and we can only hope that it will survive although, to be honest, I do not hold out much hope. This is the image of the healthy ten day old sibling. We will check again on Wednesday...
