Barges at Saint Mammes

Friday
As yesterday, I went for a little drive after my midday swim, this time to the village of Saint Mammes, located at the confluence of the River Loing and the Seine. Historically it has long been a barging center, and whilst the industry isn't as big as in the past, there are still plenty of barges moored at the quays, as you can see in my blip. Some of the inner ones especially appear not to have moved in quite some time, but most I would say are still working barges. As you walk along the quays you can read several boards about the artist Alfred Sisley who lived for about the last twenty years of his life in nearby Moret-sur-Loing, and painted many scenes in Saint Mammes. It was another scorcher today, though maybe not quite as bad as yesterday. By evening, quite a few clouds had rolled in, making it comfortably warm as we ate at a riverside restaurant in Samois-sur-Seine.
