.................Lighthouse
Photographed at sunrise this morning.
A short trip by a small passenger ferry across the Nelson harbour, NZ, brought us to the Boulder bank in time for this morning’s sunrise.
The extra photo was taken as the sun crept higher in the sky. The spring flowers are remains of the former residence of the keepers and their families.
It has been a very enjoyable weekend, but bed calls so I will catch up with your journals tomorrow evening.

Update - below is a brief timeline for this lighthouse
1848 - A light was erected on the Boulder Bank
1859 – Nelson Provincial Council suggested building a lighthouse on the Boulder Bank
1860 – An engineering company in Bath, England built the lighthouse in kitset form and shipped it to NZ
1862 – The light was lit for the first time. The cost of the lighthouse was 2824 pounds
1875 – A house was built on the North side of the light for Keepers accommodation
1896 – A large house on the Southern side of the light was built
1915 – The light was de-manned and automated
1982 – The light was decommissioned after 120 years of service. It was replaced by a stronger, electronically run light erected on the reclamation.
1983 – Historic Places Trust gave it an ‘A’ classification, it being a monument to early maritime navigation in NZ.
