Falun

We visited the world heritage site at Falun, where Sweden’s biggest copper mine was located. It closed in 1992 after nearly 600 years of mining. The big hole in the blip formed on Midsummer 1687, when no one died, as it was a holiday. This was the heyday of the mine and the hole just got bigger as the site was reworked. The shot is a panorama of 4 ultra-wide angle shots, so that gives some sense of the scale. The colours are those of the copper, iron and lead mined at the site.
