Snijbonen!
Snijbonen is a Dutch treat. It's rare to find in the Toronto area so when I found them at the new Coppa's Supermarket in King City, I had to grab a bunch and cut 'em up. They were imported fresh from Belgium so they are the real deal.
Snigbonen means "cut beans" but are sold here as "pole beans" or "flat beans" which describes their look and the way they are grown. I still had my mom's old chopper so I cleaned it, set it up, and started slicing. It made quite a pile which I then divided, bagged, and froze. They are the same as or very similar to "French-style cut beans" which often are served with almond slivers and butter. YUM!
