Day Eleven - The Final Slog

Last morning being woken up with coca tea!!!! Breakfast this morning was the best yet, omelettes with hot dog sausage and cheese, very good!!

We left camp around 8ish for a really long 3 hour trek down to Cashapampa. This was super draining as it was so monotonous and a little dull! It was downhill the whole way, in the baking sun, with crumbly sandy terrain which was really slippery. We were walking alongside the river, which I just wanted to jump into!!

We finally arrived at the end point around lunchtime, to our snack pack lunch boxes in some shade! I did feel quite smug watching people passing us all cheery faces and quick paces, thinking you guys are in for a tough but rewarding few days!!

We headed back to Huaraz by minibus, stopping for ice cream in Carhuaz, I had passionfruit and tuna (not fishy don't worry!) which is apparently a traditional Peruvian fruit! Very refreshing.

Back in Huaraz, we headed to our hostel - a different one with mountain views and just a few meters up from the Eco Ice Peru offices. I flumped onto the bed really to collapse, but was told by Brendan to shower because I was so muddy and gross!! That first shower was the best feeling, although I think it will take a few more showers to feel properly clean!

At 7ish, we all met at the office to be taxied to Orlando's parents house for a farewell meal, it felt like we were driving into the middle of nowhere! Once there, we were laden with 6 or 7 pisco sours, as well as a huge plate of food, consisting of a late chicken portion, a gigantic piece of corn, some broad beans and 3 different whole potatoes! Some of us did a better job than others at polishing off this huge plate, but mostly it was just nice to sit around and catch up with everybody before we all went our separate ways!

Rosy and Pete had to catch a night bus that evening to Lima, so we all said our goodbyes, swapped emails with the promise of sharing all our photos and jumped in taxis back to our own hostels. Sleep that night came far too easy and we were out before we even hit the pillows!
