WIDE ANGLE WEDNESDAY
I persuaded Mr. HCB to leave this cucumber on the plant until today, telling him that I wanted to use it for Wide Angle Wednesday - I think he was quite chuffed!
You would not believe, though, how difficult it was to photograph this cucumber, so I decided to “play around” and make it look psychedelic - meaning “having intense vivid colours or a swirling abstract pattern” and this is for Wide Angle Wednesday, and not Abstract Thursday!
This variety is “Burpless” and I can tell you from the others we have had, that once you have tasted a home-grown cucumber, you won’t want to go back to the tasteless varieties that they sell in our supermarkets. It is 16” long from tip to toe and it will be eaten within 2 days - because there are more out there in the greenhouse and of course, they won’t last forever, sadly.
Our friend, Rachel, is very fond of cucumbers and as she is going back to uni this weekend, Mr. HCB says that he is sure he can find one for her either to take back or to munch on the way - we never did manage to meet up for a coffee during her vacation, so perhaps she will think of us when she is eating her cucumber!
I learned something today whilst writing this - cucumbers even get a mention in the Bible:
The riffraff among the people had a craving
and soon they had the People of Israel whining,
“Why can’t we have meat?
We ate fish in Egypt - and got it free! -
to say nothing of the CUCUMBERS and melons,
the leeks and onions and garlic.
But nothing tastes good out here;
all we get is manna, manna, manna.”
Numbers 11: 5-6 The Message
P.S. Went to see our son and daughter-in-law last evening - in as an extra is a photograph I took of them - made on my PIP and Fotor apps with one of them on their Wedding Day in the background.
