Too late to start on this pile today. While not bone dry, the smaller pile has now been chucked into the cellar. I filled the basket to carry some into the house and found I could barely lift it. Hornbeam is denser than water, which is why they use it for construction of lock gates. 

We discovered that we have another black kitten. We wondered why Carla had suddenly lost weight. Some of the male cats, Millet and Tricksy are currently only making rare appearances, while Czarek seems to rule the roost.
