Kiwi Blowfly

I went out to the garden hoping to find a good macro subject, but it was cold, and this fly was the only thing I found. It is probably a native blue blowfly. Why it has its tongue sunk deep into a hole in the driftwood I can’t imagine.

Edit: More likely a brown blow fly, Calliphora stygia, native of Australia.
