Hexham Abbey

Having a few days break in Hexham.   Much to see.

There has been a church on the site of the Abbey for more than 1,400 years, since Queen Etheldreda made a grant of lands to Wilfrid, Bishop of York c.674.    


Extra:  The Night Stair by which the monks made their way to the church from the dormitories, called to prayer in the wee small hours.
