Cavern Club
I met Ann at the Cavern Club as she'd been out for a walk first. It was somewhere on my list of things to do in Liverpool, and I know, before anyone says, it's not the original club which was demolished along with the building above then recreated, using a lot of the original bricks, to cash in on the Beatles phenomena, but I don't care, it is still a special place bringing back the memories of the era.
It was quite busy even though it was only 10:30 in the morning, mainly the older generation, such as myself. It is a museum with memorabilia, signed guitars etc but also still a functioning music venue, but not on this, the original stage, they have another room for gigs. The only part they haven't recreated is the gents loo, which is quite modern, I dread to think what it was like back in the day.
We went for coffee at Nero after, there are a few to chose from, then onto the Museum of Liverpool on the riverside. This was very interesting showing the history and rise of the city and a nice cafe for lunch.
After a quick look in the Open Eye Gallery, a contemporary photography place, we took a walk through town and found an excellent vegetarian eatery, Egg Cafe, large portions and very reasonable cost. Feeling replete we started off back to the apartment stopping off at the White Star for a pint and an orange juice. Whilst in the pub we started watching Murray in the quarter final against Nishikori, continuing once we arrived home.
