The Gruffalo
The Gruffalo's habitat is being contatined by fencing and agriculture, but there are still pockets of deep, dark wood where, if you look hard enough you may find them.
They are well camouflaged and hide in all sorts of places, like tree stumps.
Although they are known to be carnivorous (this one had just finished a pigeon) it is not widely known that they great lovers of mushrooms and will forage for seasonal fruits such as blackberries and horse chestnuts. It may be that the Gruffalo is in fact the reason for the falling numbers of conkers as their habitat is restricted and they are forced to eat more of the fruits in ever diminishing variety of species.
Due to its ferocious notoriety people have always been very sceptical about its fascination with nature and like that other much maligned creature - the mountain gorilla - the fact that it sleeps in a nest up in the trees.
In fact, the Gruffalo is actually a very gentle character who loves to sunbathe and is much more a lover rather than a fighter ........ this one was even caught in the early morning slipping out of the woodland fairy's house (the naughty, naughty boy!)
