All the Fun of the Fair

Yesterday I said something about the excitement of youth and all that it offers. I should have kept quiet as little over 7 hours later, the joy and excitement of youth arrived at my door in the shape of a very drunk young girl. Not mine this time thankfully, but she was struggling under the weight of her.

The poor girl hade no keys, had fallen out with the girl she was to stay with, had no money and her family couldn't be raised on the phone.

She had to stay. Poor chld was quite ill but given her wide brimmed smile was obviously still enjoying the excitement of youth!

As a young girl I relished the weekend when the 'fair' would come to Queensferry. It's part of that odd Scottish tradition where the community have all manner of silly games and nonsense during the week and then crown a queen in a regal style parade at the weekend, followed by some candy floss and and twirl on the waltzers. The result was often similar to last nights.

It was lovely to drop in on the fair today, and for a brief moment I relived the excitement and joy of youth - without the hangover.
