Mary's Bower..
Another Heritage Day visit took us on a tour of The Old Hall Hotel in Buxton, which was one of the places visited by Mary Queen of Scots.
Here she is in her finery, in her Bower (aka Room 26.. And yes, allegedly it IS haunted!).
It was a most enjoyable and informative tour. I hadn't realised that so much of the old tower building of her incarceration was still there, at the heart of the Hotel. The ceiling, in the 'Bower', is original. The 'Queen' painted a wonderful picture of what she would have seen through the windows and how she occupied her time. (She went to Buxton to take the waters, both to bathe and drink).
We came away feeling enlightened (and entertained).
We came home and ate a hearty lunch, before heading into the garden for some toil in the soil. (In fairness I didn't do much, owing to still needing to plough through photographic images in order to make some space to take more.. I vow to never fill devices again..).
And, the red wine forecast, I'm sad to say is looking grim..
Owing to an unprecedented low (in the purchase department).
Despite the high pressure this brings, it seems that once the sun hits the yardarm tonight the likely outcome will be white :-/
Or even a cheeky grin and bear it :-)
Happy Friday One and All.
