Marathon

OH MY WORD! We loved today. LOVED it. A reasonably late start, by katie's standards - we werent up and about until 6.30. We had a wonderful time playing in the grounds of the house with Uncle Simon, we had a lovely breakfast with him and Alicia. Cali and Catherine joined us all before too long and second rounds of breakfast followed. Katie asked excitedly to wear her lion tshirt to the marathon we had decided to go see. She had her colours in her hair, her lion mascot in her hand (with Monkey too!)
C&C, Katie and I all headed in to London. We headed back towards St James' Park, stopping to buy some snacks, and got ourselves a spot by park on the marathon route. The children ate snacks, played together. Katie hid in the pushchair from the rain and growing crowd. But as soon as the runners appeared, she wanted to watch. And got really excited. She loved it!! She clapped, she waved, she cheered.
After the first round of runners, the children had another play, running and chasing at the edge of the park. We moved on up the route to a spot nearer the Palace (the Princess' House as Katie calls it). They had a really good view in this spot - of the runners, of the water/sponge station, of the runners going off up the road and they were even more excited. It began to rain again, so we walked a bit further up the route. We came to right outside Buckingham Palace. There was quite a thick crowd, a double barrier, then the route. The marshalls saw the children, and asked if we wanted to bring them past the crowd, past the first barrier, so they could see. It gave them an amazing view of the final circuit of the athletes, as the road swept past the palace. Wonderful time.
It took Katie and I a long time to get out of central London - lots of road crossings were blocked, underground stations very busy - but it gave us time to enjoy another walk along Westminster. We arrived to Simon, to get a message that we needed to go into Covent Garden. We took a tube and train round back in to do the errand needed. Katie took full advantage of the chance to eat ice cream, snacks and play in the Plazza. When we got back to Simon's, she ate a Huge plate of pasta, carrots and cheese. Her exact request for tea. Another fantastic evening of athletics and a tired little lady fell asleep, cuddling the lion and Monkey.
