The Senate House Open Day.

Normally closed to the public, I was lucky to get a ticket to go inside and hear about the history of this marvellous building. It was designed by James Gibbs and built between 1722 - 30. It is now used mainly for degree ceremonies and was formerly a place for meetings of the Senate. This academic was telling us about it's history. One extra shows the entrance and the other other the ceremonial robe and chair where the highest ranking official sat.  He was known as the Chairman as everybody else had to stand and although the term is still used, I am sure that others are allowed to sit these days.
Actually, at first glance, I thought this lecturer was Benny Hill and expected a bevy of girls to start chasing him around the room !
