Appreciating art

Not so long ago you weren't allowed to take photos in museums or art galleries. I remember when even the hint of a camera would upset attendants in the Louvre.

Now, it seems that you can't possibly go anywhere famous without taking a photo on a phone.

In the wonderful palace in Sintra, near Lisbon, the queue slowed to a stop while every family had to be recorded in every room.

I popped into the British Museum this morning, with my camera of course, and noticed that so many visitors didn't even look at information boards, or use audio guides. They just walked up to the item, queued to take a photo, often a selfie in front of the work of art, and then walked away.

This young lady is, at least trying to do justice to the Nereid Monument.
