ooh La La
*backblip*
Anniversary weekend has arrived and Steve and although I just got home from India on the Friday, on the Saturday morning we popped on a wee train to go under the Channel to enjoy a weekend away in Paris.
The train journey was really lovely - it is actually nice to go away without the hassle of airports and airport security (although short lived and we will come onto that later).
On the first afternoon we arrived Steve had already organised tickets for the tour of the Palais Garnier which was a spectacular building. It was so beautiful and the lady who took our tour was incredibly funny and her delivery was good. We saw the entrance all the noble people would come through, the gorgeou and ornate staircases, some costumes and also got to sit in the theatre seats and admire the beautiful artwork all around the building. It was a lovely way to settle into the weekend.
In the afternoon we went back to our hotel which is famous for it's Mille-Feuille which felt like a meal it was so rich.
A couple of things that surprised me, although on reflection this should possibly not have been a total surprise.
Every building you enter your bag is held open and shown, the museums have military presence and metal detectors when entering every place and there is a level of security that while unexpected is incredibly and sadly, understood.
This included entering our hotel every time and eventually I was just so used to it although it took me a few times.
In the late afternoon into the evening we went out for quite a long walk and wandered all the way to Saint Germaine region where we found a little place for a little sneaky Chablis before heading back to the hotel via a restaurant for a small snack - we were absolutely full still from the pastry so didn't need much.
A beautiful day in a beautiful (although so hideously expensive!!!) city where we paid about £8 for a diet coke in the hotel - oops.
