Oswestry Heritage
The town and surrounding area always have lots of places to visit for the National Heritage Open Days. This year is no exception having over thirty places open to visitors.
This morning I went to a mediaeval house with stone heads and lots of carvings to deter witches and demons. The extra photo is of the owner is showing us one carved into the lintel of the fireplace.
The main photo is of Rednal Canal Warehouse on the Llangollen Canal. I walk past it regularly but it's not usually open to look around. Moored on the canal is the restored fly-boat Saturn. Fly-boats would deliver goods to the warehouses on the canal and had to stop when the sign was out or they would have been fined. There were also horse-drawn canal boat trips from here.
This evening I went to Cambrian Heritage Railways for an evening of British transport films from the 1930s to 1950s. They were very interesting and showed how the UK has radically changed from those days.
