Looking up to the Heavens

This weekend is Heritage open day weekend, which is wonderful as several churches that are usually locked have been open. It has been quite difficult choosing which of the many beautiful curches I should visit, but I always knew I wanted to visit this one, St Barnabas at Ranmore near Dorking.
St Barnabas is a Gothic revival church built in 1859 by George Cubitt MP, the first Lord Ashcombe and owner of the Denbies estate. The architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott, who was also the architect for Christ Church Ottershaw the other church I visited, and it really is very gothic in design, dominated by a huge tower in the middle (which to be honest does look a little out of scale compared to the rest of the church). Inside it is superb, with lots of marble and huge pillars. Today's Blip is looking up into the huge tower, to give you some idea of scale.
