Cable Cars and Cursed Islands
*Backblip*
The weather continues to be stunningly warm. On the Sunday we decided to head into town during the day and headed up the cable car into the hills. The views were fantastic - especially given the clear day. We went to the fortress up there which had a museum exhibition of the war when Croatia was attacked by the Serbians and Bosnians in 1991 - there was some amazing photography exhibited but it also seems quite surreal that just over 20 years ago the place was a warzone and Dubrovnik was a target.
After the cable car we went to Lokrum - a beautiful island off the coast of Dubrovnik where people can catch a ferry across but no-one was allowed to stay on the island. At one point the island was inhabited by Benedictine monks who were forced to move off the island - on the last evening they wandered the island chanting a curse that anyone who took the island's pleasure for their own would be cursed. There have been (I think 2) rich owners who did take the island but also who came to a grisly end so it seems that the island curse is believed.
It was lovely and there were plenty of peacocks and rabbits happily roaming the island (see extra).
We also both had a wee pose on the Game of Thones Iron Throne! (again extra).
Nice day had by all :)
