Summer and autumn
Whew, it was another scorcher today, and tomorrow it will be 28C again. This mini heat wave in autumn is quite unusual, although rather nice to have. This image represented the weather for me today - perfect blue skies, hot and sunny - yet we cannot deny it is autumn as the leaves start to turn and the conkers appear on the horse chestnut trees. Yesterday Murdoch stood on one of the fallen conkers and he hurt his paw, and ended up limping for the rest of the day - today it seems much better. I think he hates this time of year when those conkers litter his garden!
I am hosting book club tonight, so that should be fun to see everyone again after the summer. The book we read was The Universe versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was funny yet dealt with sad issues at the same time. The way our book club works is whoever is hosting it chooses a shortlist of books and then when we meet we decide on one of them. My shortlist, is case anyone is interested, is as follows
The One in a Million Boy - Monica Wood
The Trouble with Goats and Sheep - Joanna Cannon
Exposure - Helen Dunmore
The Muse - Jessie Burton
My Name is Lucy Barton - Elizabeth Strout
