Golden Wheat

Took a walk through our nearest farm today to see if the cereal harvest was underway. They had made a start but this wheat is not ready yet.

Too many of the ears are still showing green, which means the grain isn't ripe, has far too much moisture, and if harvested would quickly spoil.

A few more dry, sunny days like we've had and it will soon be there.

UK wheat typically goes into animal feeds and to the millers for bread, biscuits and cakes. We grow around 80% of our own wheat, but have to import some from the USA and Canada which is of a type necessary to produce the high risen bread we like in the UK.
