Dementia Test or Krypton Factor?

My wife gave me this wooden puzzle today.

Not sure she isn't testing me to see if I've still got my marbles.

I know it's a ball as it was made up when I got it, but as it took me several minutes to work out how to take it apart, I've no chance putting it back together. Wish I'd taken more notice.
