Day 4 of the Northcoast 500
Durness to Ardmair via Scourie, Achmelvich and Lochinver
I think we woke at 5am when the winds got even wilder and as perched on the side of the cliffs, it was as if we were on a boat on the sea!
Special day today, it is our 10th wedding anniversary and what a beautiful place to celebrate it. We went for a walk on this beach - Sango Sands, and the sun was rising giving off a lovely glow to the beach and sea. Back for breakfast and a wash up and tidy of the van. Met a couple of guys from France who slept in a tent on top of their old Renault 4!! They had their washing hanging from the windows blowing in the wind but said although it was blowing a gale they felt quite safe on the roof of the car....
Heard about a fabulous chocolate factory and Cafe called Cocoa Mountain just on the outskirts of Durness so we went there and weren't disappointed. Mmmmmmmmmmm. There were loads of motorbikers arrived and also cyclists.
We came off the A894 at Kylesku and went onto this B869 devil road from Drumbeg winding its way round the coast passing where we stayed the last time at Clachtoll. I was never so glad to get off that road it was quite an experience (for me)! I think I screamed on a few occasions !! Consoled myself with the most amazing pie, mash and onion gravy at the Lochinver Pie Shop. We ate there the last time too and it's a popular place.
Parked up at Ardmair Point overlooking Loch Broom. Nice little site, good facilities. Again the wind got up later in the night and again, van rocking like bill-O :-)
