Home Made Papdi
Looks good, doesn't it!
One of the neighbor families is from Gujarat State in western India. About once a year they make a traditional food called papdi, which I would describe as a rice chip snack. This papdi is made from rice flour, cumin seeds, other spices, and a little bit of oil. The flour mixture is pressed flat/round, then dried on a flat surface out in the sun. The papdi I selected for a photo still bends a little, but when it's dry it does not bend.
Several of the neighbor family spent most of the day making hundreds of large chips from 12 pounds of rice flour. I tried some of the wet flour mixture, and it was good. It tasted like curry with a spicy zing. They microwave or fry papdi for a snack, and what they make today will last all year.
