Huntingtower

On duty at the John Buchan Museum.   A visitor asked me which is my favourite JB Story.    I said - cheating slightly - that it was the Dickson McCunn trilogy - Huntingtower, Castle Gay, and House of the Four Winds.

This illustration is from Huntingtower and it shows McCunn in the foreground with behind him the Gorbals Diehards - a group of would-be Scouts from the Glasgow slums.    In the background Huntingtower itself - located in the heart of my own country.    Which is probably why I enjoy it so much.
