Somebody's still awake...
Is it Wednesday already?? This week is going too fast...
This morning Steve took over the kiddiecare side of life while I did some design work for him. The boys had fun I think, Ben played with his lego lots and lots! And I love that Charley will more than happily go to sleep wrapped up on Steve.
After lunch I took the boys round to a friend's house. Ben rode his new bike. I'm glad that yesterday wearing him out hasn't put him off riding it! Ben loves little Sammy (as he calls him, as we also have our other friend big Sam) and they play together really nicely. It's just a joy to watch them, not that they need a great deal of watching. They inhabit the same imaginative world as each other. They did a LOT of bouncing on the trampoline.
And then ANOTHER most surprising thing happened. Ben ate dinner! Like, asked for mashed potato just like Sammy was having. And asked for beans on top. And accepted it all mushed together because Ali had heated it up too much and was stirring it round to cool it down. And ate almost ALL of it, and it was a big pile of mash and beans! And I say almost all, because Charley, who'd had his afternoon sleep and was ready for his own dinner, caught sight of it and wanted in on the eating action....!
We stayed long enough for Ali and I to have a bit of a catch-up, and to give Steve a fighting chance of getting some sorting out of the front upstairs room done. I always enjoy these chances to just play with Charley.
And we came home to find dinner almost ready! Charley, whose eyes I swear are bigger than his belly, wanted to share. So as we were eating in the living room to be able to supervise the boys playing, Charley took the opportunity to pull himself up in front of me on the sofa and beg for food. Cheeky monkey. But he enjoyed the chilli we were having, taking little mouthfuls off my fork, and kept asking for more!! We hid the icecream from him though ;-)
And so two tired happy boys went up to bed at a hugely respectable time and were asleep shortly after. Charley stayed asleep long enough for me to do the washing up, re-settled long enough for us to talk about the front room, then came downstairs to have more milk while we watched some of the more different Olympic sports on the iPlayer. Synchronised swimming, and trampolining were my choices. Steve said we had to watch the mens' High Bar final too. So we did :) I've seen a lot of amazing rowing and cycling, so it was fun to watch something different!
Then Charley woke up. It was really too hot to sleep, so we let him play a bit - especially as I'd only taken a handful of rubbish iPhone pictures! He enjoyed himself a lot, pulling stacking cups down, chasing duplo boxes, chewing on Ben's toy tools; and told us so when we went up to bed: lying in the dark, rolling onto his back in between mouthfuls of milk, burbling away contentedly. I'm sure he was telling us how much fun it was to play even that little bit with mummy and daddy but that he missed Ben being there to share the fun.
Happy burblings, gave way to contented snoring.
Perfect :)
