Tate a Tate
One of my birthday presents from TSM was membership of the Tate for myself and a guest, so we headed off to Milbank and Tate Britain where we saw the Painting With Light exhibition. This was really interesting, a little over-curated but if you are a blipper from the heartlands there are lots of Edinburgh photographs and canvasses. I liked the later works the best, particularly Whistler and the views of London.
We then took the boat to Tate Modern which we haven't been to since they opened The Switch Room, a huge new space at the rear with additional galleries and facilities. This is quite incredible, and has an amazing 360 degree gallery giving views over London.
Best thing about Tate membership (apart from the free exhibitions) is that it gives you access to Member's Rooms on both sites (one at the Britain and two at the Modern). These have their own bars, restaurants, coffee shops, seating areas, loos and balconies and are spacious and absolutely lovely. Interestingly I saw Woody Allen in Tate Modern (see extras) - must have followed us over from New York ...
Bad news is that Dylan had to have emergency surgery this afternoon after pulling his catheter out, and they have also discovered a mysterious blood disorder which needs further investigation. So another roller coaster day. As TSM pointed out we have have only had one day of this holiday (our first proper day in Boston) when we haven't been pulled apart emotionally. Fingers crossed for better news tomorrow ...
