sexual cannibalism

We've been watching a lone female praying mantis on our window for a few days now. Then, yesterday, a male appeared on the scene. Today, they finally began to mate. Pierre doesn't like praying mantises and told me that sometimes the female eats her mate during the act and today, that happened!!!  Incredible to see it in action.
