Smirisary
After the worst night on a campsite in my memory (due to some ignorant caravan awning occupants), we sped off south to the wilds of Moidart. As soon as we turned off the A830 at Kinlochailort we began the road less travelled and stumbled across another wonderful hostelry at the Glen Uig Inn.
The weather improved in the afternoon so we paddled across to the tidal island of Samalaman Island where we found starfish on the beach. Later I cycled to the road end and wandered across the hills to discover the tiny clearance village of Smirisary which has been sympathetically nurtured back to a semblance of life by some keen isolationists. Stumbling across this view was a real highlight for me. The cluster of houses can only be accessed by foot which made the renovation efforts all the more impressive. The house in the foreground has a wind turbine, solar panels and even a satellite dish.
