Mosaics
We left Taormina for our Agriturismo in the hills near Ragusa. We stopped at Trattoria da Rueta where we had a fabulous rabbit, caper and olive stew before continuing on via Villa Romana del Casale to see the multi-coloured floor mosaics, that are unique in the entire Roman world for their quality and extent. The villa is more like a palace, with room after room of mosaics depicting exotic animals, complex geometric patters, and even Bikini girls engaged in athletics.
If you ever go to Sicily this is a must-see. We were mind-blown.
Our Agriturismo is in Montalbano country, surrounded by stony fields and white dry-stone walls. The lane is pot-holed from all the rain we've had. They don't do dinner so as we are miles from anywhere it'll be gin again for supper.
