Castle Mountain

In many ways this trip back to the Canadian Rockies after so many years away could be called 'Hikes Not Taken' or "Hikes Once Taken', or even 'A Trip Down Memory Lane'. Castle Mountain is a massive series of interconnected peaks with the horizontal striations that define the range. It was impossible to miss as we drove down the Trans Canada Highway to take Carol to Banff. OilMan and I had a wonderful up the backside of this monolith where there is a lake and a trail up to the plateau on top.

Banff is one of those towns that is charming for a time, but after driving around and around it looking for Budget car rental where Carol had reserved a car we were growing distinctly disaffected. We finally found it inside a shopping mall (why do indoor shopping malls always depress me?) after abandoning our own rental car in a grocery store parking lot and walking.

Carol's idea for a 20th reunion this year this year was inspired, and we were sad to say good-bye to her as she headed off for further adventures in the town of Nelson somewhere in the Selkirk mountain range. Before she left we recorded a laugh in a double selfie as we recorded the latest still life at our digs at Lake Louise featuring the 'privacy please' moose. His daily antics arranged by our room cleaner were greatly amusing. The result is today's extra.
