Family meeting
This is playing catch up with our camping story....... Photo shows the family meeting that took place when we were facing the reality of the extreme weather event we found ourselves in the middle of. This was while we still had some internet coverage, before the entire state of South Australia blacked out and Melrose was hit by a tornado!!!
With extreme wind predicted and with the afternoon hail storm (size of golf balls according to A who was the only one at camp when the rest of us went driving in search if wild flowers) behind us, we decided we would batten down and used almost every peg and guy rope we had, packed up the trailer and had clothes and torches ready for possible night evacuation.
We didn't get much sleep as the trailer was thrown about by the huge winds but the tent did not suffer at all. Combination of good manufacture and great camping skills (and having the car and a pretty decent sized mountain right behind us).
Sometime after midnight the state electricity grid was shut down so no more forecasts available.
It was good to see daylight.
But with more winds and rain expected and so definitely no more riding happening, we took a lucky lull in the wind to pack up camp. The kids were amazing working together to get everything done when they were probably all pretty scared and S unable to help much as he had to do emergency repairs to the trailer wiring.
Then the long road home.
