A Time Line To Remember
On the 9th of November 1989 the Berlin wall was breached and Germans from the east streamed through. In the west many stood on the wall .It was amazing .
On October 3rd 1990 there were huge celebrations to mark the first official day of German Unity .( Tag der Deutschen Einheit) The biggest party I've ever attended. Music , food and drink plus wonderful weather set the mood.
Today I walked over to the Haus des Runfunks ,the oldest self contained broadcasting house in the world . They have a piece of the wall which stands in a little garden .This is my blip for today. The wall depicts Erich Honecker .The message being , last to go turn the light out. There is also a very informative map showing how Berlin was divided.
The area around the grey city was all DDR .It was a very long wall and where water got in the way gunboats were there always watching .
