A pretty pair!

Today I was stewarding together with Mr Tbay at the South West Dairy Event held at the Bath and West Show Ground. This is an event aimed at the many (currently beleaguered!!) dairy farmers in the west.

The main events are the numerous dairy cattle showing classes held throughout the day. They also have numerous calf showing classes the previous night. The entries were slightly down this year partly due to factors such as TB , and partly due to the increasing cost of showing the cattle. This together with seriously depressed milk prices has reduced the number of exhibitors over the past few years.

However there are still a stalwart band of breeders who continue the art of Cattle Showing. This picture is of the Gurnsey pairs class . The eventual supreme champion of the show was Holstein cow with a Jersey cow in second place. The Jersey cow in second place was supreme champ for the past two years !

Mr Tbay was Steward to the Trade Stand Judge, a charming lady who had travelled from Cumbria. I spent my day running the Steward and Judges Hospitality suite. Sounds rather grand but basically together with Mrs V's mother in law we served a lot of tea and coffee and did a LOT of washing up!! A fun day but my feet do hurt a bit now.

Farming - Two on compost hauling and had the whole team out maize silaging.
