This is the magnificent new cafe at Agnew Park in Straraer. Run by the Council this is a great example of community open space . The park extends along much of the open seafront of Stranraer providing lengthy and wide paths for walkers, cyclists, children and dog walkers in complete safety as no cars are allowed beyond the car parks. A child's play area with a wide range of quality equipment is provided and a lake with island and pirate ship. The miniature railway only operates in the tourist season. The brand new cafe is the latest investment but for me the most striking difference between this facility and the provision at home was the standard of the maintainance. The grass was mown , shrubs pruned and the infrastructure was maintained to a high standard.
The park is heavily used and it seems that the residents appreciate the work of the Council .The lack of litter and particularly the lack of dog fowling ,a major problem in Fishguard, I believe shows that civic pride still exists.
