Anaesthetists Reunited
So today we arrived in Addis after a (short) overnight flight on which sleep was snatched and all-too-brief. Then to the hotel for a meeting and then a rest while we waited for the patients to be brought from the Cheshire Home 20 miles away to be assessed at the hospital.
On our way to the hospital we stopped for tea at the Dandi Cafe, which was always a favourite but last year was demolished and rebuilt 10 metres back from the road for some reason which involves the laying of huge pipes under the highway. So good to be back there - 4 teas and a macchiato for the princely sum of 90p.
D and Grant haven't worked together for a while but they're obviously enjoying each other's company :-)
We saw most of the patients and after each one was assessed by surgeons and anaesthetists they came to my little "studio" behind a screen to be photographed from front, both sides and a "worm's eye view" (from under the chin). Tonight I have processed all the photos and these will serve as a record of "before" their operations. In two weeks' time we will repeat the process for the "after" photos.
There seems to be a block on Facebook just now so no way of doing my Humans of Dumfries, although I have my portrait ready and waiting to upload.
Time to sleep now, I think. Still some patients left to see tomorrow morning :-)
