Crazy Horses + Crazy Weather = Awesome Birthday

Well, not quite crazy, but certainly friendly and definitely handsome!

These young chaps are just a couple of the famous Clydesdale working horses at Erewhon Station in the shadow of Mt Potts. Mrs H and I decided that a trip further inland on the other side of the Rangitata would be a great way to spend my birthday, so we packed a picnic and a flask (suitably middle aged considering my advancing years) and took to the gravel roads past Mount Somers and Lake Clearwater.

As the title suggests, today's weather has been all over the place. We woke to bright sunshine, which soon disappeared as the cloud rolled in. I checked Yr.no and saw that Erewhon was going to be the best bet for fine weather, and we managed to get some - just before a blistering southerly blasted its way up the Rangitata.
