Took the train south from Barmouth to Aberystwyth today. The railway line hugs the coast and you get breathtaking views of estuaries and beaches as well as the rugged mountains inland.
The university town of Aberystwyth has one of the longest promenades in Britain at 1.5 miles. The tall victorian hotels and guesthouses which line it are brightly coloured and the lamposts are strung with lights, which creates an interesting ambience after dark. Flags of fifty nations line the entire length.
As you stroll along, there are various beach cafes and coffeeshops within easy reach in which to rest your feet and find refreshment. There is also an ice cream parlour which sells the unique, locally made honey icecream .......................
